Going to Thailand you can discover a huge number of royal palaces, and because Bangkok is its capital city, you can find most of these palaces in Bangkok. Because of that, we are sharing with you a list of royal places you can go to for your one day trip in Bangkok.

  • Grand Palace

Let’s start this list with the most famous landmark in Bangkok, the Grand Palace. One of the things to do in Bangkok, and definitely something you shouldn’t miss out, is visiting the Grand Palace.

This breathtaking and impressive palace was built in 1782 and for 150 years was the home of the Royal Court, Thai King and the administrative seat of government. Entering the Grand Palace, you will be in awe of the intricate designs and outstanding architecture creatively designed and made by the Thai people.

Another reason why the Grand Palace is one of the tourist places in Bangkok is because of other impressive buildings you can find in its complex like the Wat Phra Kaew also known as the Temple of The Emerald Buddha where you can find the very famous and honoured Emeral Buddha from the 14th century.

  • Vimanmek Mansion

Your travel itinerary should also include a visit to Vimanmek Mansion, known to be the world’s largest building made in golden teak. The Vimanmek was pretty much preserved and old photographs, antique furniture and glassware are still inside it.

The mansion was originally built in Ko Sichang in the province of Chonburi but in 1900, King Rama V instructed to have it rebuilt in Dusit Palace.

Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall

  • Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall

Found at the end of Dusit’s long and wide Royal Plaza is the 2 storey white marble palace that was constructed in 1907 during King Rama V’s term but was finished in the reign of King Rama VI. Its design is neo-classical renaissance inspired which is how Italian architects Annibale Rigotti and Mario Tamango wanted.

It used to house the first Thai parliament in 1932, but now, the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall is where royal occasions and state council meetings are held.

  • Phayathai Palace

Upon its completion in 1909, the Phayathai Palace was what King Rama V and Queen Saowabha considered their country cottage. During King Rama V’s time up until now, the palace is considered as a farm where agricultural practices are done.

It was Queen Saowabha’s death 10 years after King Rama V, new royal residence was built by the order of King Rama Vi.

  • Suan Pakkad Palace

What was once considered as just a cabbage patch which its name actually means, Suan Pakkad Palace is now known to be a tropical garden with tranquil ponds plus eight traditional Thai houses around them.

Your one day trip in Bangkok will make you feel like taking a journey back in time because of the palaces that are mostly filled with historical artefacts. And going to the Suan Pakkad Palace is exactly a walk back in history as 4 Thai teak houses welcome you from outside the palace. Each of these houses were transported from Chiang Mai and are all two storey high.

Each of the houses contains old items such as musical instruments like rare drums, gongs and xylophones, an odd-looking instrument called Gong Wong Yai plus furniture and decorative items from the 17th and 19th century. You can also find a small museum showing off some Thai masked dance Khon, puppets and sculptures.

Tucked away from the eight houses is what can be noted as the best example of a Thai architecture, the Lacquer Pavilion with an interior design of carved gilded wood and Ramayana and Buddha mural paintings filling its walls.

That ends our list of royal places you can visit for your one day trip in Bangkok. You can always come back for places to visit in Bangkok next time. And for your place to stay, we recommend Everyday Bangkok Hostel, a hostel in Bangkok to make sure your Thailand travel is nothing short of perfect, ending it with a hostel that depicts the Bangkok culture, tradition and lifestyle.
