There are not just one market in Thailand but this one we are talking about stands out from the rest which is a definite reason why you should include it in your travel itinerary. Maeklong Railway Market is somehow unusual and most certainly one of the places to visit in Thailand. It might sound like your typical market back home but the Maeklong Railway Market has a train that passes by at the very middle of it. Yes, you read that right! An actual train passes by the Maeklong Railway Market six times a day.

Locals also call this place Talat Room Hop which means Market Umbrella Close, because minutes or ever seconds after the warning signal goes off, vendors pull back their awnings just enough for the train to pass by, and right after it does, vendors will put back all their awnings and their day goes on.

River Kwai Bridge

  • River Kwai Bridge

Along with the Death Railway, the River Kwai Bridge’s history dates back to the World War II which was built by the prisoners under the administration of the Japanese Imperial Army. Known to be the best attraction in Kanchanaburi, this River Kwai Bridge is part of the Death Railway that is 415 kilometres long and was used to make sure supplies would reach Thailand during the war. The Death Railway is called as such because of the death of many war prisoners all over Australia, England, America and Holland, plus the labourers from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Myanmar during its construction between Sept. 16, 1942 until Dec. 25, 1943.

Now the River Kwai Bridge and the Death Railway both symbolize peace and how a war is something no one could benefit from.

  • Amphawa Floating Market

Your Bangkok Travel Guide would definitely lead you to a floating market, something that is popular in Thailand. But unlike other floating markets, the Amphawa Floating Market that is 50km southeast of Bangkok can be found at the Mae Khlong River and is frequented by locals more than tourists.

In the Amphawa Floating Market, if you buy from vendors selling delicious seafood, you would have to sit it across the boats in small wooden tables. For about 3 hours, you can easily finish going around the market buying snacks, souvenirs, clothes and anything else you can purchase.

There are boat tours offered which takes about an hour and leads you to the canals and the Mae Khlong River and some temples around the area like Wat Bang Kung. The cost of the boat tour depends on the number of people joining, with only 50 baht if you join the others or 500 baht for a private tour.
