Thai food Cooking time: Cook your own Somtum; Healthy Green Papaya Salad

          As a traveler, one of things to do while exploring new foreign countries is trying local meals. Like many Asian countries’ dishes which are popular all over the world with the combination of aromatic spices, appearance and appetizing flavour, Thai food is also well-known of its own outstanding healthy ingredients in food and snack meals.

These following lists are all we need for a simply tasty dish of Somtum.

Ingredients per 1 serving

  • Shredded green unripe papaya 1 cup
  • Garlic, peeled cloves few small cloves
  • Chili peppers    more chilies , more spicy
  • Limes 1-2 limes
  • Long beans, chopped into 1 inch long piece ½ cup
  • Tomatoes few tomatoes
  • Dried shrimp 1 tablespoon
  • Roasted peanuts 1 tablespoon

Seasoning for dressing

  • Fish sauce
  • Palm sugar
  • Tamarind juice

Preparation

  1. We begin with putting some garlic cloves and chili peppers into the mortar and pound it with a pestle until you get the paste of garlic and chili.
  2. Add some palm sugar, tamarind juice, fish sauce and some pieces of sliced lime. Stir the mixture together, you can adjust the seasoning for your favourite taste.
  3. Then, add long beans, shredded papaya and dried shrimp. Pound them more to blend the ingredients with dressing. Stir it and taste the flavor.
  4. Next, cut tomatoes into bite-sized wedges. Add them into the mortar and mix with the rest of salad. Pound tomato just to bruise it gently.
  5. Finally, ladle the salad into the a serving plate. Scatter some roasted peanut over it. Now, your tasty Somtum is ready to serve.
