          One thing that many countries have in common since the past is the community of Chinese people’s living that known as “Chinatown”. These Chinatowns have their owns remarkable charming that make they are different attraction in worldwide, for examples, the Chinatown areas located in New York City which has one of the largest Chinese populations outside Asia. As a tourist travels in Thailand, one of popular things to do in Bangkok recommended as a great Bangkok’s attraction is Yaowarat or Bangkok’s Chinatown.

          Bangkok’s Chinatown is widely known as Chinatown Yaowarat due to the main road’s name in that area. It is one of the oldest areas in Bangkok. It has been the Chinese community since the reign of King Rama I. Nowadays, it is one of well-known things to do in Bangkok for going shopping a lot of various things such as clothing, gold and jewelry, or Chinese herbs and stuff in daytime and nearby is  Pahurat or Indian market.  Yaowarat is also one of the Bangkok’s night markets for Thai street food. There are many food stalls and food carts selling snack, rice, noodles, fruits, and dessert.

          Sounds great? Of course! What are you waiting for?  Grab your purse and get ready to go. From our hostel, it is not bad to take a Taxi, or Tuk-tuk (Three-wheeler) for a group of few people which car takes about 10-15 mins on road.

          If you’d like to take BKK public transportation. Just a 5 minutes walk from Everyday Bangkok Hostel to MRT Samyan station and then you take the metro to MRT Hualamphong. From the Hualamphong station, you can walk from there to the Bangkok’s Chinatown Yaowarat area. It takes estimated time 10 minutes on foot.  With this route, you can enjoy the views of Thai-Chinese style building ,shophouses, markets, shrines and temples all along the way to Chinatown tourist attraction and Bangkok market.

  • Yaowarat Chinatown Heritage Center by Wat Tri mit

This museum is on the second floor of building in Tri mit Witthayaram, one of famous Bangkok temples. It displays the history of Chinese migration from mainland to Siam with 3D visual presentation technology. The other part of museum exhibits the development of Chinese migrants to Thai-Chinese and Bangkok Chinatown as local community and tourist attraction.

Opening hours: Daily 9.00 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Entrance fees: 140 baht per person for a ticket to museum and Golden Buddha.

  • The Guan Yin Shrine by Thien Fah Foundation.

Guan Yin is the Chinese Goddess of Mercy. Thien Fah foundation is one of the oldest charity groups in Bangkok. It organizes the Thien fah foundation hospital which permit free medical care for homeless and poor.  

Opening hours: 24 hrs.

  • The Bangkok Chinatown archway

This Chinese arch was constructed by the Thai-Chinese to celebrate the highly respected Thai King Bhumibol. It is located at the Odeon Circle, as the centre of main roads of Yaowarat area.

The four Chinese characters on the arch mean “Long Live The King”.
