Unusual sights to see when you travel to Bangkok

Articles no responses

If you think if you’ve seen all that Bangkok has to offer, sit back and relax as we take you to a strange but equally exciting journey, something unusually different from the usual Bangkok attractions you can find.

Be ready with a new BKK travel experience when you add this list of what to see in Bangkok once you visit the city again.

  • Bangkok Phallic Shrine

If you go to Bangkok and start your adventure of the unusual sights you can see, let the Bangkok Phallic Shrine be your first choice.

The shrine is literally filled with penises (phalluses). Made from small wooden carvings to large stone sculptures that are ten feet tall, and are decorated with ribbons, this is mainly the reason why the shrine is unique.

An honour to Chao May Tubtim, a female fertility spirit, women who are trying to conceive, go to the shrine and make an offering of lotus and jasmine. If we are to believe rumours, it’s been said that the shrine has a good success rate.

First time visitors usually find themselves blushing as they see the displays especially because in the Thai culture, sexual imagery is uncommon.

  • Bangkok Forensic Museum

Something to add to your unusual BKK travel experience and definitely a must-see, the Bangkok Forensic Museum is not your ordinary attraction. Inside the Siriraj Hospital is where you can find this sinister museum.

Housing six different museums, inside the Siriraj Hospital is the playground for travellers seeking for very unusual and morbid sights. But only three of the six museums have gained the interest for most of the visitors.

Preserved in formaldehyde, babies that were affected by genetic disorders are displayed in the first pathology room. The next room offers visitors a view of all types of parasites, how they affect the human organs and their origin. One thing that stands out from all the parasites in the second pathology room is the collection of intensely long tape worms plus a 35kg human testicle infected by elephantiasis.

The Songkan Nyomsane Forensic Medicine Museum will welcome visitors with a more intense vibe. Featured in this museum are the bodies of murderers, accident victims and a dried body of the madman known to eat children’s livers back in 1950s.This gruesome display is a fight against violent crimes.

  • The Human Body Museum

Be in awe and maybe a little creeped out when you visit The Human Body Museum, definitely something unique from other Bangkok attractions. This weird but amazing exhibition displays 14 dissected human bodies from Japan. If you are in for a little scientific journey about the human body, the museum will give you exactly what you want.

The bodies are sliced open and neatly sliced for an in depth look at the internal organs and muscles.

  • Elephant Building

A building inspired by Thailand’s national animal, the Elephant Building is used as an office space and a condominium. There is also a language school located inside.

A landmark found in Chatuchak district, the Elephant Tower is definitely one of the unique buildings you can see when you go to Bangkok.
